Benson’s Tiebreaking Blast Helps Chargers to Split at Black Hawk

Maddi Benson (Spring Bay, Ill./Metamora) hit a tiebreaking home run in Game 1 to help the Carl Sandburg College softball team split an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader at Black Hawk on Thursday.

Trailing 4-3 in the fifth, the Chargers tied the game with a two-out double to center from Kayla Wolf (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central). Benson followed by smacking a three-run homer to center to put Sandburg up 7-4.

Wolf doubled twice and knocked in three runs as part of a 4-for-4 effort at the plate.
